Why premature born babies need our help

High Death Rate
Premature birth is the #1 cause of child mortality under the age of 5 in the world, according to the WHO. In 2015 they led to 1 million deaths. ¾ of these deaths could be avoided with effective interventions, even in the absence of NICU.

Health Issues
Many of those child survivors suffer from lifelong disabilities, including learning difficulties, vision and hearing problems. Early diagnosis of diseases, as well as early catamnestic supervision can minimize the consequences of prematurity.

Our Future
Although children make up only 24 percent of the population, they are 100 percent of our future. By investing in improving the survival rate of premature babies, we are directly influencing what our tomorrow will be like.
New parents of premature babies are often left alone with unclear terms and diagnoses. We collected terms and their explanations to help parents understand what is happening to their baby in the premature baby unit.
